Power Inverters

A power inverter, often known as an inverter or invertor, is a piece of power electronic equipment or circuitry that converts direct current (DC) to alternating current (AC) (AC). The resultant alternating current frequency is determined by the equipment used. Inverters provide the inverse function of “converters,” which were initially massive electromechanical devices that converted AC to DC. The design of the individual device or circuitry determines the input voltage, output voltage and frequency, and overall power management. The inverter does not generate any power; instead, the electricity is supplied by the DC source. A power inverter can be wholly electronic or a mix of mechanical and electrical circuitry (such as a rotating equipment). Moving components are not used in the conversion process of static inverters. Power inverters are typically utilized in electrical power applications with large currents and voltages; oscillators are circuits that provide the similar job for electronic signals with extremely low currents and voltages. Rectifiers are circuits that perform the reverse purpose, converting AC to DC.
